The Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks is a federal executive authority performing functions on control and supervision in the sphere of legal protection and use of intellectual property objects, including patents and trademarks.

Basic functions of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks are:

a) securing of established by the Constitution of the Russian Federation, federal constitutional laws, federal laws and other regulatory legal acts , the order of assignment in the Russian Federation of legal protection to intellectual property objects as well as the order of their application;

b) carrying out of control and supervision over execution of examination of applications for intellectual property objects and granting of documents of title in the manner prescribed by the legislation of the Russian Federation;

c) copyrights for intellectual property objects as well as license agreements and assignment agreements in the sphere of intellectual property and publication of information on registered intellectual property objects;

d) Carrying out of control and supervision over maintenance of the order of payment of patent fees and registration dues;

e) Carrying out of performance appraisal and registration of patent counsels of the Russian Federation and control over carrying-out by them of requirements stipulated by the legislation of the Russian Federation.
