Mr. Andrei FURSENKO

The Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation

Born on July 17th, 1949 in Leningrad.

Graduated from the Leningrad State University which was named after A.A. Zhdanov in 1971.

In 1971 - 1991 - Probationer - Researcher, Junior Research Assistant, Head of Laboratory, Deputy Director in charge of scientific work, Leading Research Engineer in the Physical and Technical Institute named after Ioffe (Leningrad).

In 1991 - 1993 - Vice-President of JSC 'The Center for up-and-coming Technologies and Designs' in Saint-Petersburg.

In 1994 - 2001 - The Director General of the Regional Fund of Scientific and Technical Development of Saint-Petersburg.

From 2000 - Chairman of the Scientific Council of 'the Center for Strategic Designs 'North-West'' Fund.

From November 2001 to June 2002 - Deputy Minister of Industry, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation.

From June 2002 to December 2003 - First Deputy Minister of Industry, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation.

From December 2003 to February 2004 - Acting Minister of Industry, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation.

On March 9, 2004 by Decree of the President of Russia he was appointed the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation in the Government of Mikhail Fradkov.

In May 2004, after the assumption into office of the re-elected President of Russia Mr.Vladimir Putin, he was reappointed to the position of Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
