Andrei Fursenko: "The education system should not be a conveyor"
On July 8, 2009 the Minister of education and science of the Russian Federation met had a meeting with the final participants of the "Teacher of Year of Russia-2009" contest. The meeting took place within the contestant adjusting workshop held in Moscow from July 4 till July 9.
"The country has turned towards school. Real moves prove that both the society, regional and federal authorities apprehended the necessity to handle problems of education as an imperative. I believe that education has become the national priority", said the Minister of education and science of the Russian Federation opening the meeting with best teachers of Russia.
A.Fursenko informed of existing problems of education, what has already been done and what is to be done. "You are the best, for this reason the heavy responsibility to solve these problems rests with you. It is absolutely clear that no methodologies are capable of sorting out these problems without teachers' participation. We do count that you together with the participants of previous years will play a great role in school education improving".
According to Fursenko there is no need to carry out global, revolutionary changes, but it is necessary to assure that achieved things start functioning in order to get back what was lost, for instance, public formation and education through work.
Answering teachers' questions about prospects of preschool education Fursenko said that nowadays a lot depends on regions. In some regions problems of preschool education are successfully solved. The Ministry of education and science is working on the methodology that will provide all children going into the first form with equal conditions regardless of whether they attend kindergarten or not. For this purpose it is necessary to distinguish notions of preschool maintenance of a child and preschool education, to recommend that questions are solved on the basis of competitive bidding so that there were a variety of preschool education forms, to provide the best with competitive support to spread their experience all over the country.
The question on how the Minister sees a modern school-leaver - a person of a high market value capable of "selling" himself advantageously or a person aware of the value of education itself - raised the interest of the audience. In the Minister's opinion it is not necessary to oppose such things. A person that leaves school should feel being successful and should be easy-to-communicate for people around him. He should be a professional and just a good person. The objective of an education institution is first of all to adapt a young person to the world, underlined A.Fursenko.
Teachers touched the theme of personnel training. How to train future teachers, are extra tests necessary when entering university? The Minister said that the question on a preliminary qualifying exam or an internship for specialists willing to work at school was being discussed. First and foremost it is necessary to motivate young people to get pedagogical education.
